PetroVietnam to build US$1 billion gas pipeline

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) will break the ground on a pipeline project on November 28th to mark the oil and gas sector’s 48th anniversary.

The 398-kilometre pipeline connecting Block B to O Mon at a cost of around US$1 billion, will include 246 kilometres under the sea and 152 kilometres on land passing through the provinces of Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang and the city of Can Tho.

The pipeline, with a design capacity of 18.3 million cubic metres per day, will transmit gas from Vietnam’s southwest sea to the O Mon, Tra Noc and Ca Mau power plants.

It will also supply gas for the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Nitrogenous Fertilizer Industrial Zone and some households in Vietnam’s southwestern region.

PetroVietnam says the pipeline can be connected to the gas transmission systems of Southeast Asia to meet Vietnam’s future demand for gas.
