Over 2.8tr dong insured for Vinasat-1 satellite

An insurance contract worth 2.806 trillion dong was yesterday signed for potential damages or losses of Vinasat-1 satellite in the operation time of 2010-2011 by VNPT International Telecommunication Co (VTI) and Post Insurance Joint Stock Co (PTI).

This is the third year Vinasat-1 was provided the insurance service.

Director of VTI, Nguyen Huu Khanh said that in past two years, VNPT twice examined over the “health” of Vinasat-1 that was considered to be the effective satellite in the region in terms of service quality and lifespan, and fuel consumption. The examination result was one of conditions for insurance providers to offer preferential prices for Vinasat-1 in 2010-2011 period.

Vinasat-1 has provided services to domestic firms such as VTV, VTC, VOV and foreign customers namely Lao Telecommunications, Singapore’s Websat and Thaicom.

Now, over 80 percent of capacity of Vinasat-1 has been leased and used.
