Open market’s effects on distribution network after WTO entry

The Multilateral Trade Assistance Project and the Danang Department of Industry and Trade co-organized a seminar on August 5 to raise awareness among civil servants and entrepreneurs of the effects on distribution networks of opening markets in the post-WTO entry period.

The seminar discussed Vietnam’s WTO commitments related to goods distribution, challenges and opportunities of these services, the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises in this field, the impact of opened markets on Vietnam’s socio-economic thinking, and ways to strengthen distribution networks in the coming months.

Truong Quang Nam, Head of the Market Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said Vietnam has one of the world’s highest investment potentials in the field of distribution, especially retailing, but that the country faces numerous difficulties such as inconsistent legal documents, weak support from the government, and lack of orientations for the development of the distribution market.
