Northeast Vietnam Aims towards World Natural Heritage

A biggest-ever group of businesses mobilized by more than 100 travel agencies in Hanoi under the Hanoi travel club attended a famtrip entitled “Northeast – Towards World Natural Heritage” from May 5-9 to survey tourism potentials in the north-eastern region of Vietnam.

The move is very significant to discover tourism potentials of a latent populous and rich land, contributing to the development of the tourism sector in particular and the country’s economy in general. Reporter of the Vietnam Business Forum made an interview with Phan Duc Man, vice chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association.

The north-eastern region of Vietnam takes the lead in natural area with 36,982 square kilometers. Its terrain is mainly hilly and mountainous and plateau. The region is home to sky-high ranges of mountains such as Tay Con Linh, Dong Van rocky plateau, Quan Ba heaven gate, Quan Ba twin mountains, famous relics like Pac Po cave, Lenin stream, CAc Mac mountain, Ban Gioc waterfall. Ba Be lake or poetic valleys. The region is not only well-known about natural landscape but also variety of custom and cultural characters of native people. Thus, if being exploited reasonably, the region can become an ideal destination for tourism in the future.

Tourism potentials of the region are huge, but tourism products and facilities are still poor, which require huge investment of authorities and enterprises. What do you think about that?

The tourism development requires comprehensive investment because it is a collective economy. Currently, tourism services in the north-eastern region such as hotels, entertainment centers, restaurants and landscapes have not been invested appropriately. The association encourages all enterprises and authorities of localities which have tourism sites to join hands to find travel agencies which have enough capitals to promote tours to the region by building infrastructures, promoting advertisement activities and creating tourism products. The task requires more efforts of both localities and enterprises.

To successfully promote tours to the north-eastern region, the association’s role is important. After the famtrip, which proposals the association will submit to the ministry of culture, sports and tourism to exploit the region’s tourism potentials?

The Vietnam Tourism Association is in charge of connecting travel agencies with localities which own tourism sites, service providers, airlines and other agencies relating to tourism. To do that, members of the Hanoi travel club need to contacts closely wit the association to choose outstanding tourism sites. Initially, the association will cooperate with state-run agencies such as the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to do well the promotion work. In addition, it is necessary to ask the government to invest more infrastructure systems relating to the tourism development in the region.

What do you think about the famtrip’s results and potentials for the tourism development in the North-eastern region?

The famtrip was considered to be successful on different aspects. However, we can see three main aspects as follows: Firstly, this is the biggest-ever famtrip delegation so far with more than 100 businessmen and journalists. Almost all of them agreed that the tourism potential in the region is very huge. Secondly, based on surveys on tourism potentials and natural resources, they will be proud of the country’s beauty and potential and build qualified tourism services and products, contributing to attract domestic and foreign tourists to the region.

In the future, as the Hanoi-Lao Cai express railway is completed the tourism sector in the northeastern region will develop strongly. The connection between travel agencies and localities in the region, thus, is necessary and significant for the long-term tourism development.
