The areas which obtained high rate included mechanics, electricity and metal processing (21.76 percent), garment and footwear (20.44 percent), food and beverages (16.95 percent) and construction materials (24.34 percent).
According to the programs on industrial and craft production and craft village development in the period from 2006 to 2010, Nam Dinh Center of Industry Promotion and Industrial Development Consultancy has cooperated with numerous local enterprises to open courses on professional training, professional transferring, and new professional introduction. After the courses, students will be employed by enterprises and cooperatives within and out of the province.
Thanks to sustained efforts, the province has experienced many successes in reviving many traditional villages such as weaving craft in Nam Hong village (Nam Truc district), Phuong Dinh village (Truc Ninh district), Hai Phuong village (Hai Hau district) and wooden craft in La Xuyen village (Y Yen district). These villages create numerous jobs for local people, raise their income, stabilize rural society and contribute to economic restructuring.
Recently, 190 out of 196 villages in Nam Dinh have traditional crafts, mainly in mechanics, weaving, embroidery, bamboo and rattan and food processing areas. In the period from 2005 to 2009, the number of industrial and craft enterprises increased by 494 which have register capital of nearly VND500 billion and create jobs for 5,000 local labors. Hence, the total number of Nam Dinh’s rural labors raises to 91,000. The province has finished two big industrial zones including Hoa Xa Industrial Zone one the area of 327ha and My Trung Industrial Zone covering 150ha. 20 industrial zones for small and medium sized enterprises which were capitalized at more than USD100 million and created jobs for 12,000 rural labors are running effectively. By October 2009, 110 businesses including 98 domestic businesses and 12 foreign invested ones with the total register capital of more than US$800 million, employing about 26,000 labors were approved. These industrial zones play a very significant role in investment attraction, job creation, economic restructuring and agricultural modernization and industrialization.
With the purpose of developing industrial and craft production, in 2010 and the next years, Nam Dinh will strengthen propaganda about industry promotion and rural industrial development through media means. The province’s Industry and Trade Department will cooperate with local technical education centers to open training courses for rural people. The department will also encourage local enterprises, especially processing enterprises to expand production, invest in technology and improve human resources. Local enterprises and craft villages will be supported to take part in exhibitions, fairs and issue magazines, leaflets to advertise their products./.
