Mobile phone sales high in Q3 2011

Mobile phone sales remained high in the third quarter despite the economic woes, increasing by 43 percent quarter-on-quarter.
According to a report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone sales were up 48 percent thanks to strong performances by Samsung and HTC.

“We expect smartphone sales growth to be 44 percent for the whole year and 51 per cent next year,” Vo Le Tam Thanh of IDC said.

Cheap models and dual-sim phones achieved 42 percent growth.

Nokia led the way in budget-phone sales but did not do well in the smartphone segment while Samsung led the smartphone market.
