Metro Cash & Carry holds supplier conference
Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam held a supplier conference in the southern province of Dong Nai on Wednesday to introduce local producers to Metro’s purchasing, product quality, food safety and hygiene requirements.
Over 140 agricultural producers and suppliers of Dong Nai Province joined the conference, according to the company.
“The conference is aimed to teach the province’s agricultural producers and suppliers the self-service wholesale model of Metro Cash & Carry and the company’s buying system including its quality assurance practices to find more business opportunities with Metro Cash & Carry,” said Metro Vietnam’s purchasing director William Savage.
Metro Cash & Carry is the leading international wholesaler, especially in fresh food. We train and support local producers to be able to supply and integrate with modern trade channels,” Savage said.
Dong Nai Province has great potential for agricultural production and food processing with 25% of its gross domestic product coming out of that sector, according to the company.
“We are convinced that Dong Nai Province can become a crucial food supplier for Metro Cash & Carry. Metro Vietnam, with over 500,000 customers, is a huge market for local producers,” Savage said. “However, these customers have critical requirements in product quality and food safety and hygiene that the local suppliers, with our support, are to follow to gain their big opportunities.”
Metro last month opened a wholesale center in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province. The 20 million euro store covers four hectares and stocks around 26,000 items of food and non-food and 95% of the products are made in Vietnam.
Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam opened its first wholesale store in 2002. Today the company has nine wholesale stores in HCMC, Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang, Can Tho and Dong Nai and two distribution centers in Binh Duong and Lam Dong provinces.
