Leading names do well at IT awards

Leading brands and well-known software makers maintained their rankings and reputations as awards for “Best IT Solutions (BIT) Cup” and “Best ICT Products” were given away by the PC World Viet Nam magazine on Tuesday.

The Best ICT Product contest this year had 33 contenders in six categories: office, mobile phone, home products, business equipment, computer components and services.

This year’s awards saw an upward surge from Dell (Laptop), Samsung (HDTV), Western Digital (HDD) and AcBel (Power supply).

Dell and Western Digital rose to top spots from 3rd positions in 2010.

The award also recognised 25 successful defenders of their gold awards: Apple, Asus (3 cups), Canon (2), Cisco Systems, Epson, Hewlett-Packard (3), IBM, Intel, Kaspersky Lab, Kingmax, Kingston, MobiFone, Nokia, Samsung, Seagate, Sony (2), SoundMax, VozForums, Western Digital.

The record for leading a particular category was set by Hewlett Packard, which has continuously remained on top in the Laser printer category for 15 years, in the multi-function printer category for seven years and the desktop computer category for five years.

VozForums was chosen as the most alluring ICT forum. AmTech came second though it flunked out of the TOP 3 in 2010 and MobiFone remained the best mobile service provider for the sixth year running.

In the BIT Cup contest, the “Internet/Mobile Banking” award was won by the Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam (Vietcombank) with 28 per cent of the votes, followed by the Eastern Asia Commercial Bank (EAB) with 22 per cent and Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) with 13 per cent.

Microsoft won its first BIT Cup in both Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software with roughly 50 per cent of the vote.

This year, Lac Viet won its first BIT Cup in Medium ERP Systems by introducing the AccNet ERP.

Viet Nam’s prominent software maker at BIT Cup 2011 was MISA, which has retained its top position for many years. This year, MISA won its 7th BIT Cup in Enterprise Accounting, and the first award in Human Resources Management, a category introduced this year.

In the “Website for e-commerce” category, the C2C (customer to customer) website, www.5giay.vn, came first after finishing third last year. — VNS
