Japanese firm plans $1b steel mill in Nghe An province

The Japan-based Kobe Steel Group plans to officially start construction works on a new steel mill situated in Hoang Mai Industrial Zone, Nghe An province with total investment capital of $1 billion dong.

As planned, the construction on the steel mill will be divided into two phases. In each phase, the investors will build one steel mill with designed capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of products per year. Therefore, after completion, there will be two steel mills with total annual capacity of 2.4 tonnes of products, using the main steel ore from Thach Khe mine, Ha Tinh province and coal mines in Quang Ninh province.

As the leading steel maker in Japan, after receiving the investment licence in Vietnam, Kobe Steel registered to establish Kobelco Soft Steel Co Ltd with initial chartered capital of 20 billion dong.
