Jan 11: Vietnam stocks close mixed as caution returns

Vietnamese stocks closed mixed today as investors were more cautious after the rally yesterday and amid uncertainty of market and macro conditions.

The benchmark VN Index gained 2.75 points, or 0.79% to end at 347.43 on blue chip support. Volume fell 20.5% to 29.1 million shares worth VND420 billion, including 8.3 million shares worth of VND143.9 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.

VN Index opened in the green with 0.9 million shares traded .Trading was still sluggish as buyers stayed cautious. Buying energy into heavy weighs: BVH & MSN and blue chips DPM, EIB, STB buoyed the market thought VN Index closed at the low of the day.

Market indicator SSI closed at the neutral line today while property stocks ITA, ITC, KBC, NTL, SJS were among the losers.

Market breadth was negative. Among 307 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 132-106 and 68 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 41 stocks closed at the ceiling price and 40 fell to the floor.

STB continued to be the spot light on the market, holding most active position with 3.7 million shares traded, closing up 2.9% to VND17,900. Another 1.16 million STB shares were changed hands in the put-through deals, extending a fashion of transferring shares in the lender even after REE and ANZ have closed their position in the bank.

Japan Vietnam Medical Instrument JSC. (JVC) ranked second with 1.1 million shares traded, closing up 2.2% to VND18,900.

Vietnam Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (EIB) was in the third place with 1.1 million shares traded, closing up 2.7% to VND15,000.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) ranked forth with 0.8 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND13,400.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Corporation (HAG) was in the fifth place with 0.7 million shares traded, closing flat at VND18,300.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX bucked trend to close down 0.27 point or 0.48% to 55.88. Trading volume fell 14.9% to 24 million shares traded for VND202.2 billion of which 2.9 million shares worth VND56.94 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.

Market breadth was neutral with 108 gainers, 108 losers and 43 flat issues.

Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 2.4 million shares changed hands, closing up 2.6% to VND7,900 on average.

VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) ranked second in the list with 3.2 million shares traded, closing up 3.2% to VND6,500 on average.

PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came third with 1.5 million shares traded, closing flat atVND6,700 on average.
