Int’l workshop on nuclear power safety

Leading nuclear scientists from Russia, the US, Japan, China, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam gathered for a workshop in Hanoi on June 17 to discuss the safety of nuclear power plants and the technologies needed to achieve this.

The workshop was held as Vietnam is preparing to build a nuclear power plant in the central province of Ninh Thuan.

Participants shared their experiences on managing, training and using human resources in the nuclear industry.

Nuclear power is seen as an important key to Vietnam’s energy shortage and the country has constantly conducted research on nuclear energy since 1996.

The first generating unit of the first Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant is scheduled to begin operating in 2020.- VOV
