Int’l Tourists to Vietnam Fall 12.3% to 3.4 Million in Jan-Nov
Vietnam is estimated to have welcomed 3.4 million foreign visitors in the first eleven months of this year, representing an on-year decrease of 12.3%.
During the period China takes the lead in the number of travelers to Vietnam with 476,500 tourists, followed by the U.S. with 368,100 and South Korea with 327,400, the government’s General Statistics Office said on November 30.

Tourists from South Korea decrease the most with 21.4% in the January-November period, followed by China with 19.4% and Thailand with 17.9%.
However, in Nov. the communist country sees a sharp increase in foreign tourist arrivals with around 400,000 visitors, up 38.6% on year and 70.2% on month. If the upward trend continues in December, the country hopes to receive approximately four million foreigners for the whole year.
The increase is attributed to the sector’s promotion campaigns overseas, including Impressive Vietnam and the recovery of the national economy.
Under the national tourism strategy for 2020 and further vision for development toward 2030, the country aims to welcome between seven million and eight million foreign arrivals by 2015. The figure will reach 11 million-12 million international arrivals in 2020.
The hospitality industry is expected to post revenues of from US$10 billion to US$11 billion in 2015 and US$18 billion to US$19 billion in 2020.
