Int’l Tourists to Vietnam by Sea Fall 37.9% to 32,500 in Jan-August

Vietnam welcomed 32,500 foreign sea travelers in the first eight months of this year, down 37.9% from a year earlier, the National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said.

In August, the country received 4,500 international tourists by sea, down 10% on month and 6.2% on year, it added, noting the decrease was attributed to poor infrastructure and inefficient tourism promotion campaign for the segment.

In fact, Vietnam lacks ports for cruise ships, experts admitted, suggesting suitable locations to build ports for cruise ships along with measures to develop products, spur investment and other activities to boost the segment in the future.

Currently, the number of international sea travelers makes up between 5% and 6% of the total figure of international tourists to the country.
