Int’l tourist arrivals to HCM City +13% to 1.68M in Jan-July

International tourist arrivals to Ho Chi Minh City are estimated to have increased 13% from a year earlier to 1.68 million in the first seven months of 2010, said the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The city is estimated to have gained tourism revenues of VND21.2 trillion (US$US$1.116 billion) during the period, according to the department.

Of the total figure of visitors, 50% visit the city for entertainment purposes and 20% for business ones.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to welcome 2.8 million foreign visitors and fetch tourism revenues of VND40 trillion (US$2.09 billion) in 2010, up 7% and 15% on year, respectively.

Currently, the number of international tourists to the city accounts for 55% of Vietnam’s total number. – SGGP
