Indonesia praises Vietnam’s contribution to ASEAN development

Vietnam has always been an active and responsible ASEAN member which has greatly contributed to the peace, stability and the prosperity of ASEAN.

Djauhari Oratmangun, Directorate-General of ASEAN Cooperation under the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made this statement to mark the 15th anniversary of Vietnam’s joining ASEAN (July 28).

He said Vietnam has made great contribution to ASEAN joint achievements, especially as ASEAN chair in 2010, adding that together with other members, Vietnam has detailed plans for the establishment of an ASEAN community in 2015 based on three pillars of Politic-Security, Economic and Socio-Cultural communities.

ASEAN leaders should give top priority to the establishment of an ASEAN community, he said.

Mr. Oratmangun promised that Indonesia will try its best to assist Vietnam when it takes over ASEAN presidency in 2011.
