Imports of cars and motorbikes rise sharply in Q1


The General Statistical Office showed that Vietnam has reached total car import value of $734 million in the first quarter of 2011, increasing by 120.3 percent against the same period last year.



In details, Vietnam’s total import value for cars was posted at $262 million, with 14,800 CBUs, an increase of 154.8 percent in volume and 162.2 percent in value against that of Q1 in 2010.



In March only, the total car import value was estimated at $275 million, of which complete-built-units (CBU) counted for 5,000 units valued at $100 million.



In the first three months of this year, Vietnam has imported motorbikes with total value of $248 million, up 191.1 percent year-on-year, of which there were 24,200 units worth $36 million, up 127.1 percent in value and 99 percent in value over the same period last year. In March only, Vietnam reported importing 4,500 CBUs valued at $5 million.
