HCM City’s GDP estimated to soar over 11pct in Jan-Jun

HCM City’s economy is developing well in the first haft of this year with the city’s GDP estimated to increase by 11 percent over the same period last year, said Le Hoang Quan, chair of the HCM City People’s Committee, at a conference on May 27 discussing the city’s socio-economic situation.

During the first five months this year, the city’s total retail sales and service turnover reached over 145 trillion dong, rising 34.1 percent from the same period last year and export turnover at $7.45 billion.

In Jan-May, the city attracted over 1.3 million international tourists, up 10 percent year-on-year, posting a rise of up to 41.1 percent in tourism revenue.

The city’s industrial production value also saw a rise of 13.8 percent, total investment for basic construction increased 15.8 percent, the city’s total tax collection at nearly 65 trillion dong or 44.6 percent of the year’s target and up 27.2 percent year-on-year.
