HCM City shelves four carpark projects
The HCM City People’s Committee has cancelled four underground carpark projects, while another four are either under construction or in the planning stages.
The projects to be shelved are car parks at Bach Tung Diep Park, Lam Son Square, September 23 Park and Nguyen Hue Boulevard, according to the city Department of Transport. In 2005 the committee approved a plan to build eight car parks in the city centre.
The other four proposed car parks will be located at Le Van Tam Park, Trong Dong Outdoor Stage, Hoa Lu Stadium and Tao Dan Park.
The two underground car parks at Le Van Tam Park and Trong Dong Outdoor Stage have been granted investment licences, and the other two, at Hoa Lu Stadium and Tao Dan Park, are completing plans.
Construction of an underground car park, the city’s first, at Le Van Tam Park will begin next month.
The Underground Space Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (IUS) invested in the park which will have five storeys and a total area of more than 72,000sq.m.
The underground car park, which costs more than US$100 million, can accommodate 2,000 motorbikes and 1,250 cars.
Construction of an underground car park at the Trong Dong Outdoor Stage on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street is expected to begin in September. — VNS
