Hanoi’s Feb CPI rises 1.45pct m-o-m
Hanoi’s consumer price index (CPI) in February 2012 is estimated to have increased by 1.45 percent month on-month and 15.64 percent year on-year, the Hanoi Statistics Office reported.
The capital city’s CPI rise this month was driven by the higher prices in housing utilities, fuel and construction materials due to sharp increase of gas prices (up 40,000 dong/12kg cylinder in early February 2012), the report added.
In month, 10 out of 11 baskets of commodities comprising the index saw the price hikes except for prices of postal services and telecommunication standing still from the previous month.
The strongest price hikes in this month were seen in two groups of housing utilities, fuel and construction materials, rising 2.79 percent.
Prices of restaurant and catering services rose by 2.32 percent in the month, of which, foodstuff saw high price hike due to impacts from high demands of fresh meats, fruits and vegetables during Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
Prices of food did not show many fluctuations in month (rose 0.12 percent). The group of restaurant saw a higher rise against the common average rise (up 1.81 percent).
