Hanoi 1000th anniversary = golden opportunity for profit

Businesses, banks, restaurants and individual service providers consider the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi as a great chance to polish their images and make big profits.

Polish Airlines (LOT) on August 19 announced the opening of a direct Hanoi-Warsaw air route three times a week. The event caught special attention as the airline stressed it was to celebrate the 1000th birthday of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Hamex, an import-export company, has introduced two special versions of Swiss Candino watches and South Korean Romanson brand watches with designs specifically made for the 1000th anniversary. The special watch bears a gilt symbol of Khue Van Cac (Pleiade Pavillion) in Van Mieu (Temple of Literature). The words “Anniversary of 1000 years – Thang Long – Ha Noi” are inscribed in English on the watch-face. One thousand watches have been manufactured.

VinaPhone, a well known mobile service provider, will launch a new model of phone to celebrate the 1000th anniversary, but has declined to reveal details such as the price and the sale program.

Since Vietnam announced the anniversary and a series of events to celebrate, products and services have been launched with ties to the anniversary. Ad banners on anniversary promotions can be seen everywhere. Telecom companies have lowered service fees and launched new services to celebrate. Jetstar Pacific has announced it will raise flight frequency for the 1000th anniversary. Even commercial banks will offer attractive gifts to depositors.

Air Mekong Chair Doan Quoc Viet told VnExpress that the airline has decided to provide its first commercial flight on October 10 to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. Meanwhile, VALC, an aircraft chartering company has also announced it will receive the fourth ATR on October 10 for the same reason.

Not only big enterprises, but supermarkets and shopping malls in Hanoi, even public bars, have begun programs for the anniversary.

The phrase “drinking for the great anniversary” has developed at all bia hoi (draft beer) shops. Quynh, a man in Hanoi, has invited his friends to karaoke to sing for the ‘great anniversary’.

Minutka restaurant has also announced a promotion. Phan Van Quang, a manager of the restaurant, noted that there are not many Russian food venues in Hanoi, and the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi is a golden opportunity to advertise and make the brand more well-known.

The 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi is such an important event that the words have been spoken by every Hanoi resident. Even motorbike repair shops have decided to lower service fees for the anniversary. Quynh Anh in Dong Da district revealed that she has received freebies during restaurant meals in recognition of the event.-VnExpress
