Handicraft-interior decoration show 2009 opened in city

Hundreds of ceramics, ornamental trees, wood sculptures and hand made products produced by nearly 30 enterprises in southern Vietnam are being displayed at the Viet Nam Handicraft and Interior Decoration Show 2009 which opened in downtown HCMC on Friday.

Organized by the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association, or Hawa, the show runs until July 1 at the Investment and Trade Promotion Center of HCMC (ITPC), 92-96 Nguyen Hue Street, District 1, as part of the promotion for the handicraft and interior decoration companies in southern provinces, according to ITPC

HCMC vice chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hong said that the ceramics, plants and other products that were finely produced by skilled craftsmen reflected the country’s strong national character not only for domestic consumers, but also in foreign markets.

She also said that the domestic handicraft industry is facing difficulties such as the need to import material wood. She stressed that a stable materials source requires immediate planning and investment. (SGT)
