Gold market appears quiet over weekend

The atmosphere has been rather quiet in the domestic gold market over the weekend.

Gold in Hanoi SJC Jewellery Joint Stock Company and Bao Tin Minh Chau Company on May 30 still hovered around VND27,68-27,75 million/tael, as at closing time on May 29.

In the world market, gold stood at US$1,214.95 per ounce at closing time on May 28. In past week, the price of gold rose 3 percent against the previous week to reach US$1,218.35 per ounce, the highest level since May 19.

In addition, the world price of crude oil fell below US$74 per barrel after the value of the US dollar grew stronger.

In Vietnam’s free market, the exchange rate of foreign currency was VND18,970-18,990 per US dollar, while in commercial banks, it was a little higher, at VND18,970-19,020 per US dollar.
