Giong Ong To Bridge opened to traffic
HCM City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Co. (CII) opened the Giong Ong To Bridge to traffic on Interprovincial Road 25B on Saturday, after one year of construction.
This is the most important part in the project expanding the road to facilitate transport between Hanoi Highway and the port. The bridge, 431 metres long and 12.5 metres wide, cost nearly 150 billion dong.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, HCM City vice chair Nguyen Thanh Tai said the bridge, which was completed three months earlier than schedule, would ease traffic congestion to the Cat Lai Port in HCM City’s District 2. The project will also regulate traffic flow in the city and attract vehicles to travel on the road and the Phu My Bridge.
Interprovincial Road 25B stretches 5.3 kilometres, linking the HCM City East-West Highway with Cat Lai Ferry Station. The road will soon be upgraded to eight lanes.
Once completed, in late 2010, the road will help ease the traffic burden on the current Saigon Bridge.
