Gemadept cooperates with Korea partner to build deep-water port

Gemalink Joint Stock Co yesterday signed cooperation contract with Korean Sealim-Samwha to build the Gemalink-Cai Mep deep-water port in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

This is the largest port in Cai Mep Port Complex with investment capital for the first phase of $300 million. The construction work was expected to be started in August 2010 and put into operation in 2013.

After completion of the first phase, the port will have a main wharf of 800 metres long and a 260-metre wharf for barges. The container deport will cover an area of 33 hectares with designed capacity of 1.2 million TEUs per year.

The second phase of the project was supposed to be finished by 2014.
