Four new bridges to be built in Ha Noi

Ha Noi People’s Committee plans to build four new bridges crossing the Red (Hong) River from now until 2015, Director of the Ha Noi Department of Transport, Nguyen Quoc Hung announced on June 6th.

The city will complete additional construction work on the Dong Tru, Nhat Tan, Phu Dong 2, Vinh Thinh and Vinh Tuy bridges by 2015, said Hung.

The four new bridges name Tu Lien, Thuong Cat, Hong Ha and Me So.
Recently, many bridges, when brought into use have eased existing traffic flows in other bridges to Hanoi City over the Hong (Red) River from the north and north-eastern provinces..

For instance, Thanh Tri Bridge, one of the four bridges over Hong River in Hanoi area, helps to boost socio-economic development in adjacent areas, especially in the northern key economic triangle of Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

The project was funded by Japanese government loans and from domestic sources. Besides, the construction of two other planned bridges of Vinh Tuy and Nhat Tan would provide more links to and from the capital city.

Although the feeder roads were still under construction, temporary roads have been built for heavy trucks and container trucks to cross the river, reducing traffic problems in Chuong Duong Bridge, currently the major bridge for traffic from the port city of Hai Phong to the capital.

The city also plans to re-build and upgrade 35 weak bridges throughout various districts including the Ung Hoa, Thanh Oai, Ba Vi, Thach That, Gia Lam and Dong Anh bridges in order to ensure traffic safety and better connections.

Furthermore, 15 pedestrian flyovers will be built on Lieu Giai, Nguyen Trai, Xuan Thuy, Thai Ha and Pham Ngoc Thach Streets.

The municipal People’s Committee will upgrade and widen highways 421A and 421B in the Quoc Oai District. Projects will receive financial assistance from the Quoc Oai People’s Committee, total funds set to reach VND88 billion (US$4.4 million). Preparation for construction will be completed by September this year.

Highways 421A and 421B, having total lengths of 4.3km, will offer better connection to the Thay Pagoda while reducing traffic jams in the area after upgrading. – SGGP
