First turbine of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant joins national grid

The hydropower project management board No 3 announced yesterday that the first turbine of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant was officially put into operation and joined the national grid after four years of construction.

The hydropower project management board No 3 was the main investor of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant project that was kicked off in March 2006 in Bac Tra My Dist, Quang Nam province. The hydropower has two turbines with total designed capacity of 190MW. The first turbine of the hydropower plant with designed capacity of 95MW, officially joined the national grid in 12 days earlier.

It was expected that the second turbine of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant will be officially operated on January 25, 2011, one month earlier than scheduled. After the two turbines are put into operation, the plant is supposed to provide 679 million KWh per year.
