FAO believes in effective cooperation with Vietnam
“The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the government of Vietnam has established long-term relations and have cooperated in many fieldsâ€, said FAO Chief Representative in Vietnam, Yuriko Shoji.
Ms Shoji made the statement in response to correspondents’ questions on FAO’s priorities within the framework of FAO-Vietnam relationship.
She said that issues related to food security in Vietnam are relatively complicated and challenging. “Vietnam has a fast growing economy and is one of the world’s leading food exportersâ€, she said.
“However, like other nations, Vietnam also has to cope with climate change and issues related to environmental protection, the biosphere, as well as difficulties in developing the fisheries and forestry sectorsâ€, she said.
Ms Shoji expressed belief that the relationship between FAO and Vietnam as well as other UN organizations will become more effective in future.
She added that Vietnam is also a nation which has reaped successes in implementing the pilot programme “One United Nationsâ€.
Highlighting the role of Vietnam in cooperation with FAO, especially Vietnam’s contributions to South-South Cooperation Programme, Ms Shoji said Vietnam is the leading nation in making contributions to the programme.
She expressed hope that Vietnam can share experiences in development fields with other nations in the region and the world in general as the country has grown rapidly in recent years.
