EVN: shortage of over 6.8b kWh due to lack of water
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) recently said that in October, water pouring into large hydropower reservoirs was lower than the average level of previous years.
In details, water in hydropower reservoirs such as Hoa Binh, Tri An, Ialy and Dai Ninh was lower by 7-22 metres than that of the same period last year.
Thus, in first ten months this year, the total water pouring into hydropower reservoirs nationwide decreased by 37.3 billion cubic metres against the average level of previous years, equalling to a hydropower shortage of about 6.84 billion kWh.
To meet power demand for the economy and consumers, during last ten months, EVN’s electricity production and electricity purchase from foreign countries reached over 80.6 billion kWh, increasing 15.47 percent year-on-year. Of which, electricity production was nearly 49.3 billion kWh and electricity purchase at over 31.3 billion kWh. Notably, Vietnam bought about 4.55 billion kWh from China.
As forecasted, in November, electricity supply has not been improved yet.
Also in November, EVN will put into operation some power source projects to support the national electricity system such as the first generator of Quang Ninh thermo power plant, the second generator of Srepok 3 hydropower plant, the first generator of Dong Nai 3 hydropower plant. Especially, the first generator of Son La hydropower plant will be able to start operation before December 15. – Vietnamplus
