The Department of Electricity Regulation requires the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) to prepare the plan to reduce the electricity supply from the next month as the country is expected to have a shortage of nearly 2.08 billion kWh in the coming dry season, the online newspaper VnExpress reported on February 22.

The country is forecast to have a shortage of 3 billion kWh this year and the electricity supply will be narrower as the electricity plants haven’t operated stably. Meanwhile, Vietnam is predicted to import from China by 2.506 kWh in the dry season and 4.566 kWh for the whole year.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Vietnam has accepted to raise the electricity prices by 15.28% from March 1, Hoang Quoc Vuong, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade told local media on Februray 20.

This hike is much lower than EVN ‘s proposal of 32%, but enough to affect on the price levels in the coming time, highly pressuring on the macro economy.Le Dang Doanh, senior economist shared. – Stoxplus.com
