E-Passports For Vietnam Next Year To Prevent Forgery

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to a national project that will see e-passports, which use chipset technology to prevent forgery, next year, according to Vietnam news agency on Tuesday.

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Security and digital signatures will be issued by a centre within the ministry.

Dung has asked the Ministry of Security and Ministry of Finance to work with relevant agencies to submit a pricing structure proposal for the e-passports.

If a draft national programme of information technology for the 2011-15 period is approved, all passports issued by 2015 will use the new technology and all Government agencies will be equipped to supply digital signature and identification services.

E-passports are currently used by 45 countries around the world.
