Duyen Hai 1 thermo power plant increases production capacity

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group recently held the ground breaking for Duyen Hai 1 Thermo Power Plant project in Duyen Hai Power Centre, Dan Thanh Commune, Duyen Hai Dist, Tra Vinh province. When in operation, thermo power plant will supply the markets about 7.2 billion KWh per year.

Addressing at the ceremony, Truong Vinh Trong, deputy prime minister confirmed that in the past years, EVN group has invested in many power plant projects to meet the country’s socio-economic development demands. The government has issued variety of policies and mechanisms to speed up the construction progress of the current thermo power plant projects at present.

Dao Van Hung, chair of consulting board in EVN group said Duyen Hai 1 thermo power plant was one of three power plants in Duyen Hai Power Centre, to be sited in an area of 641 hectares with total designed capacity of 4,500 MW and investment capital of $5 billion.
Each year, the power centre produced about 25 billion KWh. This is the forth project that EVN started construction within this year, after the projects of Nghi Son 1, Song Bung 4 and Vinh Tan 2.

Duyen Hai 1 thermo power plant has two turbines with designed capacity of 1,245 MW. Each year the power plant produces about 7.2 billion KWh. The total investment capital for this project was posted at $1.57 billion, equalling to 29.245 trillion dong.

The main EPC contractor for this project was Dongfang Electric Corporation Ltd (DEC). It was expected that the first turbine will start commercial operation in Sep 2014 and the second one of November 2014.
