Domestic gold above VND26.8 million/tael

After the holiday, domestic gold prices on May 4 increased by VND100,000/tael to exceed VND26.8 million/tael due to rising world gold prices.

At 10am, SJC gold at the Sai Gon Jewellery Holding Company stood at VND26.70-26.82 million/tael, up by VND120,000/tael from the previous day.

Meanwhile, other kinds of gold, including SBJ gold from the Sacombank Jewellery Company, Thang Long Dragon gold at Bao Tin Minh Chau Company and PNJ gold at the Phu Nhuan Jewellery Company, all rose by VND100,000/tael and were transacted at over VND26.81 million/tael.

This is the first time in recent two months that the domestic price of gold has passed VND26.8 million/tael. However, the atmosphere in gold stores was rather quiet because earnings from trading in gold are not as high as before.

The world’s gold price on May 4 hit a record high of US$1,180.13 per ounce, compared to a year earlier. The price of crude oil also rose to US$90 per barrel.
