Da Nang in price-cutting promotion

Visitors to the central city of Da Nang this month will be able to take advantage of discounts ranging from 5-50 per cent on consumer goods and services.

“This is the first promotional month we have held here. We hope to attract visitors to Da Nang in the low season,” said Ngo Quang Vinh, director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

About 30 travel agents, restaurants, hotels and supermarkets all over the city are taking part in the programme.

Major travel agents participating in the discount month are Danatours, Vietravel and Saigontourist. Visitors travelling from Da Nang to Hoi An, Hue and My Son will get 15 per cent off the usual price.

Also taking part in the programme are Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Sandy Beach, Phuong Dong (Orient), Ba Na, Saigontourane, the Royal Hotel and shopping centres Big C, Intimex, Metro and CoopMart.

Visitors looking for bargains will be offered discount tickets.

Tourist privilege cards and shopping coupons will be available at the airport, bus and train stations, hotels and supermarkets.

Vinh said the programme, co-organised by the Culture Department and the Department of Industry and Trade, would be held yearly in the low season from now on.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Da Nang attracted nearly 1.6 million visitors in the first 10 months of this year – about 110 per cent of this year’s target, and up 42 per cent on the same period last year.

There were 336,000 international visitors to the central city, a year-on-year increase of 26 per cent.

Total turnover of the tourism industry in the first 10 months of the year was about VND1.1 trillion (US$56.4 million) – 103.5 per cent of the year’s plan, and up 62 per cent on the same period last year.

According to the department, six cruise ships are expected to bring more than 5,000 international tourists to the city between now and the end of the year. — VNS
