CPI up 0.27pct in May
Vietnam’s May consumer price index (CPI) was estimated to increase 0.27 percent from previous month, 8.76 percent over the same period last year, and 4.55 percent against last December, the General Statistical Office (GSO) reported.
During the month, the group of housing and construction materials saw a rise of over 1 percent (at 1.46 percent and 1.34 percent respectively).
Almost remaining items posted a rise of less than 1 percent such as drinks, tobacco, garment and textile, footwear, equipments and household appliances, medicine and medical services and transport.
Also in May, notably, the group of restaurant and catering service decreased 0.12 percent and the telecommunication group fell by 0.05 percent.
The gold price in May climbed 1.91 percent whereas the US dollar price slipped 0.65 percent.
Calculating according to provinces and cities, Hanoi’s CPI rose by 0.41 percent and it soared by 0.48 percent in HCM City and then Thai Nguyen (0.04 percent), Thua Thien Hue (0.09 percent) and Gia Lai (0,16 percent).
Region-based calculation, the urban area saw a rise of 0.37 percent while the rural area was up only 0.19 percent.
