Construction on Lai Chau hydropower plant starts
Prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday attended the ground breaking ceremony of Lai Chau hydropower plant and officially announced to start construction works on this project. The construction project has total investment capital of 35.7 trillion dong.
The 1,200MW hydropower plant with four turbines was sited in an area of 4,900 hectares in Nam Hang Commune, Muong Te Dist, Lai Chau province. This is the third largest hydropower plant in Southeast Asian region, after Son La hydropower plant (2,400MW) and Hoa Binh hydropower plant (1,920MW), providing average electricity output of 4.704 billion KWh per year.
The construction was expected to last for five years, and the first turbine of Lai Chau hydropower plant was supposed to be put into operation in March 2016, the second turbine of September 2016 and third one of March 2017.
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group was the main investor for this project. – TBKTVN
