The firth Cho Lon Exhibition Fair took place in Ho Chi Minh City from December 31, 2009 to January 4, 2010 under the theme ‘Increasing export-Joining hands for development and welcoming the Buy Vietnamese Goods campaign’. The event was hosted by the Cho Lon Consultant Services Economic Development Center under guidance from HCMC People’s Committee and HCMC Department of Industry and Trade.

Chinese Businesses and HCMC Development

The fair attracted more than 150 companies (mostly Chinese businesses) and consisted of over 400 booths. On display was a diverse range of products: food, processed food, garments, household appliances, stationery, electro-mechanical and plastic products, handicrafts, interior decoration items, information technology equipment etc.

The director of the Cho Lon Consultant Services Economic Development Center and also the head of the fair’s Organizing Committee, Truong Tu Muoi, said that the active participation of busineses and the wide range of products indicate the strong vitality of the city’s businesses generally and Chinese businesses particularly in this present period of economic recession. The fair helped participants find new partners for production and businesses expansion and increase sales. It materialized the target of encouraging the Chinese business community to joint the city’s efforts to confront economic recession, maintain growth, and respond to the movement ‘Buy Vietnamese Goods’. It also fostered cooperation among domestic businesses and between domestic and foreign businesses.
The chairman of Thien Long Group, Co Gia Tho, said the fair helped Chinese businesses not only present their products but also demonstrate Chinese authentic food and traditional culture through particular art programs.
In the words of Mr. Tho, like people, businesses are sometimes in good conditions, and sometimes in a bad mood. In 2010, Thien Long Group will do its utmost to accomplish its development targets. Accordingly, it will further improve the product quality and customer services, expand the distribution network and particularly improve the laborers’ living standards.
The general director of ABC Confectionery, Kao Sieu Luc, said that the fair manifested the ability to surmount difficulties of the Chinese business community as well as their contributions to the city’s development.
Significantly, during the fair the Organizing Committee joined hands with the Job Promotion Center under HCMC Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) to host a Chinese job fair, the third of its kind, under the theme ‘Lucky Sunday’. Sixty-eight businesses registered to find 6,000 laborers to be working in different areas: Finance-planning, information technology, bookkeeping-administration, marketing, interpreters, director assistants etc. In the fair, the Organizing Committee invited specialists to help job seekers better orientate their future vocations. Through the job fair, 968 laborers out of 3,250 job seekers found jobs. In addition, 45 businesses said they would directly employ laborers through websites such as www.vieclamhcm.net or www.vieclamvietnam.goc.vn.
Via the success of the firth Cho Lon Exhibition-Fair, Ms. Truong Tu Muoi said that further efforts will be made to turn the fair into an annual event for trade promotion in Ho Chi Minh City.
