Catfish exports to Russia rise by 10%

Viet Nam shipped more than 20,000 tonnes of tra and basa catfish to Russia in the first seven months, an increase of more than 2,000 tonnes year-on-year.

Speaking at a meeting in HCM City yesterday to review tra exports to Russia, Duong Ngoc Minh, head of the tra catfish export management board to Russia, said the average export price was US$1.71 per kilogramme, up 9 cent from the same period last year. Russia’s tightening of quality norms for seafood imports and the onset of the salmon fishing season in September will have negative impacts on the exports, he said.

But the export target of $100 million set for this year is likely to be achieved.

Seafood export companies would have a chance to promote their products and look for new partners in Eastern Europe when they go for the World Food Moscow 2010 in mid-September, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Le Phuong said.
