Cai Lan steel mill put into official operation

Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp (Vinashin) will officially put into operation the Cai Lan hot-scrolled steel mill in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh province on June 2, 2010.

It is the first hot-scrolled steel mill in Vietnam and the largest one in East Asia region so far. The investment capital for this project was estimated at 2.9 trillion dong. The new steel mill has designed capacity of one million tonnes of products per year, with Vinashin as the only investor.

The new steel mill was built in an area of 15 hectares with production lines to be imported from China, producing main products of steel sheet of 5-50 millimetres thick, 1.6-3 metres wide and 6-18 metres long.
