Australian Pm discusses economic ties with Vietnam
Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has held meetings with Vietnamese leaders on her last day in Hanoi.
Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has held meetings with Vietnamese leaders on her last day in Hanoi.
Ms Gillard met the General Secretary of the Communist Party at Communist party headquarters and the Prime Minister and President at the presidential palace for talks expected to cover growing economic ties between the two countries.
The Australian leader has previously stressed the importance of people-to-people links, particularly through education, and was due to visit the Hanoi campus of Australia’s RMIT university this afternoon.
Earlier, she praised discussions at the East Asia Summit in Vietnam on asylum seekers and tackling people smuggling in the region.
She also raised with fellow leaders Australia’s plans for a regional processing centre for asylum seekers.
