Apparel export expected to surpass 2011 target

Vietnam’s apparel export in 2011 is forecast to surpass the target of $13 billion soon thanks to favourable conditions in foreign markets including US, EU and Japan, the Saigon Giai Phong newspaper reported.
The whole sector earned $6.16 billion from exports during the first half of 2011, growing 30% year-on-year. Vietnam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) particularly achieved $1.22 billion, up 32% and fulfilling 53% of its entire year plan.

Vietnam’s apparel export to US grew 29% against the same period of 2010, lifting its market share in the foreign market to 8%.

Apparel sector has brought in high surplus value despite a sharp surge in prices of imported materials. In Jan-June, Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of almost $2.1 billion in the sector.

This year Vietnam’s apparel export could reach $13.2-13.5 billion. – Vietbiz24
