Air conditioner, fan sales rise as temperatures soar
Demand for air conditioners and fans has climbed in Ha Noi as temperatures reached 38 degrees Celsius or higher, according to electric shopowners.
Yen, a shopowner on Bach Mai Street, said sales of fans had tripled or quadrupled compared to earlier months. Fans that cost VND200,000-VND350,000 (US$10.5-18.4) were best-sellers at her shop, she said, with water-cooling fans selling for VND1 million ($52.6) in huge demand.
Pham Van Phu, director of Dong A Technique and Trade Joint Stock Company, said sale of air conditioners had increased by 50-60 per cent since the middle of last month.
With a surge in demand, his company did not have enough workers to install air conditioners for customers.
Ha, a salesman at HC electric and electronic supermarket, said sales of air conditioners had skyrocketed recently, with customers buying more energy-efficient machines.
To combat power outages during hot weather, customers in Ha Noi have also rushed to buy electric generators and rechargeable fans.
A shopowner in Cau Giay District said his store was selling 15-20 rechargeable fans priced between VND700,000-VND900,000 ($36.8-47.4) every day.
Although priced at VND6 million-11 million ($315.8-579) for an UPS battery inverter or a dry battery, sales of these products has risen remarkably, according to electric shops.
Sales of sun protection clothing, masks and gloves to be used in hot weather have also risen. A representative at the Ha Noi Trade Corporation (Hapro) said sales of bottled green tea went up dramatically.
Despite the surge, Hapro said it had plenty of supplies. — VNS
