ADB assists in two important traffic projects in HCM City
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide US$1.1 billion to two important traffic projects in Ho Chi Minh City which aim to clear the congested streets.
The bank will grant US$540 million for the project to build an urban railway with the length of 11.3km running from Ben Thanh market, through Tan Son Nhat international airport, to Tham Luong. It will also supply US$636 million for construction of a 57km-long Ben Luc-Long Thanh highway.
The Ben Luc-Long Thanh highway will make the traffic in centre of HCM City more convenient and facilitate the transport of cargos between the city’s big seaports.
Once it is opened in 2017, it will help reduce by 80 percent the amount of time needed to commute from the eastern to the western part of the city. The number of traffic accidents will also be expected to decrease by 10 percent. – VOV
