$2.5b to build Song Hau 2 power plant
Malaysia-based TOYO Group on April 7 worked with the leaders of the People Committee of Hau Giang province on a project to build Song Hau (Hau River) 2 power plant with an estimated capacity of 2,000 MW in Song Hau Power Centre, Phu Huu A commune, Chau Thanh district in the southern province of Hau Giang.
The provincial leader approved in principle, at the same time, promised to petition to the prime minister to get approval for TOYO Group to invest and carry out the Song Hau 2 power plant project.
The plant with a total investment of about $2.5 billion will use the coal and kerosene fuel sources. The plant is expected to start operations by 2018-2019.
Song Hau Power Centre is allowed by the government to build three power plants with a total capacity of 5,200 MW. This is the Vietnam’s largest electricity centre.
Of which, Song Hau 1 power plant has a capacity of 1,200 MW invested by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam-PVN). The plant was kicked off in 2011 and is expected to join the national grid by 2013 and 2014. – Vietnam energy
