Vietnam may import 250,000 tonnes of sugar in 2011

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has lately estimated to reach total sugar output in 2010-2011 crop of about 1 million tonnes, therefore, the import quota in 2011 may be at about 250,000 tonnes.

The statistics from the Department of Import and Export, under ministry of industry and trade showed that by the end of October 2010, the enterprises have already imported 210,000 tonnes of sugar.

Up to November 15, Vietnam has had about 36,300 tonnes of stockpiled sugar. Together with those being produced by the sugar refineries nationwide, ministry of agriculture and rural development affirmed that there would be sufficient sugar to meet the domestic demands in the coming Tet holiday. – KTVN&TG
