Tra fish removed from Red List

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has agreed to remove Vietnam’s Tra fish from its Red List.

The information was released at a press briefing by the General Fisheries Office on December 15.

At the briefing, WWF global seafood coordinator, Mark Powell, admitted the information leading to the organisation’s decision to put Tra fish in its Red List was inaccurate. He also said WWF will move Vietnam’s Tra fish to the White List (products which are encouraged for use).

Deputy Head of the General Fisheries Office, Pham Anh Tuan, said his office will be working closely with WWF for further cooperation in developing Tra and Basa fish breeding sustainably. – VOV
