France funds $100 million for Huoi Quang Hydro-Electric Power project

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the French Development Agency (AFD) has signed an agreement to fund $100 million for the Huoi Quang Hydro-Electric Power project.

The 520 MW plant located on the Nam Mu River in Lai Chau province is a priority project listed in the 6th Master Plan for Power Development in Vietnam for the 2006-2015 period, with a vision for 2025.

Its first turbine unit is expected to be put in operation by December 2014 and the second by April 2015.

The project will contribute to reducing energy production costs and boosting economic development in the northern region. – Nhandan
