Catfish exporters should target Mexico

Mexico is the biggest market for Vietnamese tra and basa catfish in Latin America, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).

In the first six months of this year, Mexico imported 17,000 tonnes of tra, worth US$37.3 million, making it the fifth biggest importer of Vietnamese catfish after the US, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

Shrimp is the second main export to the Central American country. However, shrimp exports in the first six months of this year totalled just 45 tonnes, worth $402,000.
